There are some misunderstandi
ngs about why we ban members from Elfpack. Here are some common false thoughts:
1) Elfpack bans members to punish them
- Not true. We ban members because they are causing problems here and makes this a less fun place.
2) I have the right to do what I want!
- No, you don't. You're only here because we want you to. If you don't make Elfpack happy, we'll make Elfpack happy by removing you.
3) Bans are for a limit period of time
- No, they aren't! If you get banned from Elfpack we never want to see you again. Banned people are not people that have done something stupid, but people that have done something stupid again and again and refuse to stop.
4) Ban me then!!! I don't care! I'll just make a new user!
- Well that doesn't work, because we can track you down in many ways. And that is good for you, because otherwise we would have filed a police-report on you and made you pay for the damage you're causing.
So... Be nice goofs!
Are you harassed?
First of all: Make sure it isn't a misunderstanding. Some people have a strange kind of humor, or you or they might have misunderstood something.
Then report them to the guards (There is a button in their house).
If they keep on bothering you while you're waiting for the guard, you can block their messages.
If you respond to a harassment by harassing back, the guards will probably just ignore the case and think you're doing it for fun. Date: 2006-02-20 20:51:42

Security problems in Windows
There is a severe security problem in Windows that affect Elfpack users. Windows-users should read this carefully:
There is a problem in how Windows handle WMF-images. As any user on Elfpack can inline any kind of image, this means that if you're using Internet Explorer on Windows and are using Elfpack (or go to an unknown site) your computer can be taken over by someone else.
Microsoft has no fix available right now, but there are two things you can do:
1) Don't use Internet Explorer when using Elfpack (or an untrusted site). Use Firefox instead (see
firefox or download straight from
http://www.elfpack.com/_firefoxad ). As Firefox doesn't handle handle WMF-images, I'm told that it's safe.
2) To be really sure (This also makes your email-programs and Google-desktop safe.):
Un-register the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (Shimgvw.dll) on
Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows Server
2003 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
To un-register Shimgvw.dll, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type
"regsvr32 -u %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll"
(without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
2. A dialog box appears to confirm that the un-registration process
has succeeded. Click OK to close the dialog box.
Update: And here is a little movie that shows what can happen if you don't follow these advices:

Update 2: Microsoft will release a fix on the 10th of January. After installing that, you can do:
regsvr32 %windir%\syste
m32\shimgvw.dll
To make these kind of images work again.
Update 3: The fix above didn't help against everything, but now a patch is available. Run Windows Update!
