Echoes in the Wind

Chapter 1

“Mother, how could you hit me so hard?!” whined Kiyomi while rubbing her bruised head. Sakura stared dully, waiting for her to stand and continue. Another day of training with her daughter Kiyomi and Atsuka and Ranashi watching from the dojo porch went on as normal. Atsuka and Ranashi trained as well but had stopped about an hour earlier. Kiyomi did not always look forward to training with her mother, none the least try to attack Sakura and actually hit her. Kiyomi winced when she felt a cut from Sakura's sword.

Sakura sighed as a fallen lock of her raven black hair fell out of place. Sakura was the tallest out of them, maybe a head taller than Kiyomi who was fifteen years. Her long, raven-black hair stopped at her hips when in a ponytail and in the middle of her thighs when loose. Her skin was colored a fine peach, and her eyes were a cold but enchanting silver. The color swirled and shifted and shined very brightly in light, but a vicious acid was hidden deep within their depths if anyone were to come too close. Little lights seemed to blink on and off in her eyes, seeming to hide the deadly acid from any length. Kiyomi finally healed enough to stand. Sakura snorted.

“Hn….you would have finally struck me if you were paying attention. ‘Tis the whole reason of why I train you, to watch your enemies motions Kiyomi,” she said dryly. Kiyomi growled.

“It is not so difficult to you Kaa-san, mother; but for me, it is very hard to keep up with you and avoid your attacks. You're pushing to hard! I can't defend myself with a wooden sword when you have a real sword!” she yelled. Kiyomi was similar to her mother, short tempered and headstrong; but she was also outgoing and layback, but enjoyed to trick people. She also had black hair like her mother but it was slightly lighter and only down to her shoulders. She had the same fine peach skin but she had electric green eyes filled to the brim with excitement and enthusiasm. Every now and again, a flicker of light would burst through them, but only for a moment. Her mother though was silent and calm, but cold-hearted.

Sakura merely ignored Kiyomi's remark and started to collect her belongings. Kiyomi growled in frustration but followed her mother's actions. Since their training had finally ended, Atsuka and Ranashi stood from the porch and walked over to their friends.

“Sakura is not pushing you to hard Kiyomi,” she stated soothingly, “your spirit awareness is weakening. You are not concentrating hard enough.” Sakura nodded in agreement.

“Atsuka is indeed correct Kiyomi, you need to strengthen your spirit awareness with her again,” Sakura added. Atsuka looked at Sakura and nodded as well.

Atsuka was a very good friend of Sakura but was the shortest out of the group, but the wisest. She mostly spent her time researching and reading in her library, but still had time to train with her magic that she would find in her mountains of books. Atsuka had dark, blood-red hair that stopped in the center of her back and in a low ponytail. Her eyes were a calm golden. But a small fire could be seen glowing in them. Atsuka's skin had darkened more than the others had over the past years but the fire from her eyes go be seen more brightly.

Atsuka turned around and headed for the dojo. Ranashi ran up to Kiyomi and threw her arm around Kiyomi's shoulder with a big grin on her face.

“So, for the next couple of days, you'll be spendin' time chanting over and over again with Atsuka and sitting in a room for four hours just meditating?” she teased. Kiyomi shrugged Ranashi's arm off her shoulder.

“I would rather not think about it Ranashi Ozawa, and your talking about it doesn't help with the matter,” Kiyomi said. Ranashi's grin grew wider.

“I just wanted to make sure so I could take some of your things while you're away. Oh, and good imitation of Sakura,” she said cheerfully. Kiyomi rolled her eyes and walked a little faster to get away from Ranashi.

Ranashi was (unfortunately) also a good friend of Sakura. She was the least serious person out of them and stood about as tall as Sakura was but an inch shorter. She was usually the one either getting in trouble the most or getting drunk the most. Ranashi also teamed up with Kiyomi to play tricks on people; specifically Sakura and Atsuka, for she enjoyed annoying people. But Ranashi's cheerfulness could always give someone a good laugh and she was very good to talk to and very playful. She had dull, black hair that stopped just above her hips but had a white tint to it. A cold-gray bandana was wrapped lazily around her head with no care if it was perfect or not. Her eyes though were an energetic, midnight blue that sparkled. Ranashi's skin though was very pale and seemed to glow, giving an eerie aura feeling to her.

Kiyomi had walked far enough for her to catch up to Sakura.

“Mother, is it really necessary that I must practice my spirit awareness with Atsuka?” she complained. Sakura smirked.

“Of course it is!” she beamed. “Besides, you can complain as much as you please, but it will not matter for you are living in Japan and under my roof.” Kiyomi groaned but obediently went inside the huge dojo. Ranashi laughed and walked inside afterward.

Japan. That is where Sakura and the others lived. In Kobe, Japan to be exact. They did the same thing, day after day like any other person would do. That's pretty much what Sakura and the others had done for the past five-hundred years (except Kiyomi). And they hoped that it would stay that way, for they did not want to leave because of it.
