Sent to Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf) under the guise of the peace treaty between the two villages, the Shinobi Gashira actually had a hidden agenda. Kumogakura wanted to get their hands on the Kekkei genkai of the Hyūga clan, the Byakugan. In order to get the Byakugan the Shinobi Gashira tried to kidnap Hyūga Hinata, only to be killed by her father Hyūga Hiashi. Kumogakure claimed Konoha had broken their newly signed treaty and demanded the dead body of Hiashi as compensation. Although Hiashi was fully prepared to die, he was saved by his twin brother Hizashi who volunteered to die instead of Hiashi.

Trivia:

-The Shinobi Gashira's true name is unknown, although many people call him Shinobi Gashir as the result of a mistranslation.

-Although he's called Kumo no Kuni no Shinobi Gashira in the First Data Book, There is no such country as Kumo no Kuni in Naruto. Although there is a village named Kumogakure this village lies in Rai no Kuni (Land of Lightning). The Shinobi Gashira is, however, listed under Kumogakure's village symbol.
