Background:

Aburame Shino is a cool, collected, confident Chūnin from Naruto's graduating year (originally from Yūhi Kurenai's Genin team 8 along with Hyūga Hinata and Inuzuka Kiba) who is quite mysterious and always wears sunglasses. As a part of Aburame clan tradition, Shino was infused with a special type of insects that feed on his chakra at birth. In return, the insects attack and do other tasks as he commands.

Shino was the only male Genin left out of the (failed) mission to retrieve Uchiha Sasuke when the latter decided to become a Missing-nin, and felt some bitterness and guilt over the matter, considering the eventual outcome might have been different had he been sent to help them as well. In the anime, he and Kiba help Hinata to train herself. He apparently has passed a Chūnin exam during Naruto's 2.5-year absence, which, considering his performance during the previous one, was to be expected.

During an anime filler, he leads Team 8 and Naruto to find the Bikōchū, a rare insect with legendary tracking abilities. During this arc, he demonstrates his intelligence and cunning in battle, as well as his hobby of observing and collecting bugs.

In his Naruto II debut, Shino wears a white hooded jacket over a black high-collared buttoned shirt similar to his old outfit. In addition, he also carries a black pouch behind his back. Naruto notices that Shino is as peevish as ever.

Trivia:

-"Shino" is the given name of the samurai Inuzuka of Hakkenden, a novel about a dog samurai.

-According to the official databook, Shino's favourite food is vegetable salad, and his least favourites tofu balls and strong-smelling foods. His hobby is observing bugs, and his favourite phrase is "Trump card".

-Shino's eyes are first shown in episode 149 in the anime.
